Classic soul oldies are an inspiration for my art.. It is also the heart and soul of our chicano culture and is common ground for black and mexican street life. Artist were more honest back then, they talked about their pain and emotion more than their money and cars. No one cared if Smokey Robinson had an iced out watch or big rims on a Rolls Royce.

Hello Cartoon,
I've been a follower of your blog for a long time. This is the first time I felt the need to reply. You made a few powerful statements in a few words. You are right on about soul music being a common bond between brown and black. We are more alike than not and I wish more people saw it that way. And your right about nobody caring what material possesions Smokey had. Real music helps you make sense of your life and the world. When is the last time a Bentley made you think?! sorry for being so long winded... Take Care.... Bryce
MR TOON:
Been following your work from back in the early days of Lifestyle CC and Kid Frost's East Side Story album cover. Thanks for the jam. Keep doing your thing!!
It's nice to see a blog that features some great oldies. Punk Rock as I may be, growing up in East L.A. in the 70's & 80's, you couldn't help digging on this music. It's all I listen to now that I'm 40.
Thanks for sharing some of the greatest music ever recorded.
